"Alex ist sehr müde. Er macht sich fertig fürs Bett. Er wäscht sich, putzt seine Zähne, zieht seinen Pyjama an, sagt „Gute Nacht“ und klettert die Stufen hinauf zu seinem Schlafzimmer im Schlossturm. Die Treppe scheint länger zu sein als sonst und Alex bleibt auf halbem Weg stehen. Er ist müde und schläfrig. Als er in seinem Zimmer ankommt, schaut er sich um und freut sich, seine Kuscheltiere zu sehen. Er schaut zum Fenster, durch das der Mond herein scheint. "Alex puede oler los pasteles recién horneados. Es algo que no esperaba encontrar en el interior del bosque. Huele muy bien y con este olor le entra mucha hambre. Recuerda las palabras de su madre pero siente curiosidad. No parece peligroso. Espera y vigila y luego se dirige cuidadosamente hacia el olor. Puede ver un camino forestal y, más abajo, escondido entre los árboles, puede ver un pequeño sendero que lleva a las profundidades del bosque verde. El bosque está muy oscuro, Alex se alegra de tener a su amiga la mariposa con él. Ellos no ven al lobo siguiéndolos, escondido entre los árboles, relamiéndose y sonriendo para sí mismo.

"Alex’s very old cat sits in the sunshine on his bedroom window sill and watches him go. The family cat prefers a quiet day here on the window ledge in the sun. The sun is rising in the clear blue morning sky. Two rabbits are playing on the grass, and two seagulls flying in circles in the air. Rufus, the family dog chases the rabbits and tries to follow the seagulls. The rest of the family decide to take the dog for a walk along the beach before Dad has to go to work. "

"Alex s’arrête un moment et se demande comment faire pour rattraper son cerf-volant, quand soudain, le vent tombe et le cerf-volant redescend doucement en direction de la forêt. Alex le suit des yeux. Il s’approche du bois et aperçoit la couleur orange du cerf-volant qui brille au soleil tout en haut d’un arbre. Alex se rappelle les conseils de sa mère et son interdiction d’aller dans la forêt. Mais ça n’a pas l’air dangereux et Alex est courageux. Il s’avance prudemment suivi du brave papillon. Il y a un tapis de fleurs multicolores. Trois fleurs bleues se tiennent à l’écart près d’un grand arbre."
